WHY CHOOSE RAP SYSTEMS
The idea came to us back in 2015 when we started seeing the presence of big bluefin off our California Coast. After landing our first bluefin (200 lbs.) we knew we needed an advantage because of the strength of these fish and my ailments. Having two back surgeries and a knee replacement, I wasn’t stepping out of the game. At this time there were no products on the market that would elevate the fulcrum point on a private boat.
Being metal fabricators our entire lives, my son and I went into our shop and created the very first pipes that would rotate on top so we could follow the fish as it made its circles. We originally built pipes for friends and family members but it wasn’t till 2021 that the word started getting out about what we had.
In 2022-23 we created an Instagram/Facebook account and also posted classifieds on Bloody Decks along with various other fishing forums and the phone started blowing up with orders. Our objective was to create a yacht-quality product that was guaranteed not to corrode or rust in time.
We chose 1-1/2 inch T316 marine grade stainless steel tubing for our pipes because of its strength and durability in the marine environment. Each pipe is handmade, not factory-built to ensure that each top is tuned and inspected before it is sold. We mandrel bend each pipe to a specific degree and notch the bottoms so they fit into the rod holder and lock into place securely. Our top U-shaped saddle is made from a 1/2 inch solid stainless round bar so it will never bend and is mirror polished to assure your line will not get frayed if it touches it. The tops of our pipes are milled from 1/2 inch solid stainless round bar and then center drilled to allow the U saddle to be fitted. The top insert is then welded to the top of the pipe and the weld is ground smooth.
The pipes are then sent out to be repolished to a mirror quality. Care for our product is very simple, just rinse with soap and water after use and towel dry. It is recommended that you apply a coat of wax every season to protect the surfaces.
RAP Systems pipes are a tackle investment that you can take with you from boat to boat just like your fishing poles. We have found through the last few years that so many of our customers share the same stories of how difficult it was to fight these large fish down on their knees or in uncomfortable harnesses. Today our pipes are used by some of the top charter boat captains across the nation. Seen on various YouTube channels such as JoeVT Fishing, Local Knowledge, Wicked Tuna, Landshark Outdoors, Hightides Fishing
jjust name a few.
